I think he could have continued, but I didn’t want to take the risk.“He gave us what we need as a team, because in that position, with Lanzini’s injury, Yarmolenko’s injury, we needed him. I was sure that if Samir wanted to be the player he was before he would do it.” last_img read more

first_imgMan Utd hero Ince: Solskjaer has nobody that excitesby Freddie Taylora month agoSend to a friendShare the loveFormer Manchester United and Liverpool player Paul Ince believes that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not have enough exciting players in his squad.Ince, who has often served as a vocal critic of Solskjaer and the club’s management structure, believes the team does not have a squad good enough to challenge at the top end.United are struggling at the start of the season, losing their most recent Premier League game to West Ham United.”I said last year – and got ridiculed for it – that Ole shouldn’t have got the Manchester United job at the stage he did. I stand totally by that comment,” Ince told Paddy Power.”Everyone got sucked into the start he’d made, without looking at the fixtures they had. It’s a result-based business, and that’s fine, but you can’t ignore performances.”Now, though, having decided he’s the man, giving him a long-term project and buying into his vision, they have to stick with him.”Irrespective of whether they win or lose at the weekend, he’s their man. There are no two ways about it, they’ve made their bed, and right now they’re lying in it.”They can’t be sacking their manager and abandoning the strategy, based on a few results. United will win games, people will get excited again, then they’ll lose and it’ll be back to crisis mode.”They’re the biggest team in the world, they’ll be on the back pages no matter what. That’s what comes with being a Manchester United player or manager.”But they no longer have that presence in terms of intimidating opponents. Teams know they can get something from them now, even at Old Trafford. Right now, United are vulnerable.”Chelsea already have a clearer vision. I think of Ole in the same way as I do Frank Lampard. Two young managers lacking experience, who have been thrown into two massive clubs.”But, if you gave me the choice of who I’d rather be watching this season, it’d be Chelsea all day long – and that hurts me as a former United captain.”Can anybody tell me what United are trying to do? Because I have no idea”They’re so reliant on the young lad Daniel James – who is brilliant, but was in the Championship with Swansea last season – it’s crazy.”There’s nobody there that excites me.” About the authorFreddie TaylorShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

‘Vinicius has to be in the team before Bale’

first_imgReal Madrid boss Santiago Solari has been urged to keep faith with Vinicius Junior amid the teenager’s growing presence with Los Blancos. The 18-year-old has started the last two La Liga games and begun as a central striker alongside Karim Benzema – who suffered a fractured finger during the game – in the 2-1 win over Real Betis.Vinicius is likely to lead the attack for the Copa del Rey round-of-16 second leg against Leganes on Wednesday – though Solari has gone on record saying Benzema is the club’s only recognised No.9. The Frenchman has undergone surgery but will play through the pain barrier as Real look to reassert themselves in pursuit of a Champions League place.Former Spain international and Valencia midfielder Gaizka Mendieta wants to see Vinicius given a more prominent role in the Real first team, even if it comes in a wide role.”He definitely brings something different to this Real Madrid team, they are playing with a player that is different,” the 44-year-old told Eleven Sports.| Vazquez, Isco, Bale or Vinicius? | @GaizkaMendieta6: “The way Vinicius is playing for Real Madrid he has to be in the team before anyone.”Watch #VivaLaLiga || https://t.co/523PpQZlPx pic.twitter.com/fyKaY9Egr0— Eleven Sports (@ElevenSports_UK) January 16, 2019″No-one does those runs, passes and moves, takes on defenders or opponents like he does or the way he does at the moment.”That is why he has to play every game at the moment for Real Madrid. He is a key player.”Lucas Vasquez is totally fit and Bale is totally fit. It is the decision for to the manger Solari who he thinks is the best player for each match.”If they’re all fit I think [Gareth] Bale would be first choice but the way Vinicius is playing for Real Madrid he has to be in the team before anyone.”People mention Isco all the time, but if you’ve got this guy why play with Isco?”Welshman Bale has only featured once this year due to a calf problem which Solari insists is not serious, but will keep him out against Leganes.Vazquez and Isco are expected to start in the wide positions, with Vinicius playing through the middle as Real bid to protect their 3-0 win from the first leg at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque.last_img read more

Fox Sports Joel Klatt Says He’d Take Greg Schiano Over Tom Herman

first_imgA closeup of Greg Schiano with his hand on his chin.TAMPA, FL – DECEMBER 15: Greg Schiano, head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, watches the action during a game against the San Francisco 49ers at Raymond James Stadium on December 15, 2013 in Tampa, Florida. San Francisco won the game 33-14. (Photo by Stacy Revere/Getty Images)Tom Herman is the hottest coaching candidate in college football. He’s not the coach Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt would hire, though.Joel Klatt, a college football analyst for Fox Sports, appeared on Colin Cowherd’s The Herd this afternoon. During his appearance, he said he’d hire another current Ohio State assistant over Houston’s Tom Herman.“I’d take (Ohio State defensive coordinator) Greg Schiano over Tom Herman,” Klatt said. “I’d take him over (Notre Dame head coach) Brian Kelly.”Klatt expounded on his reasoning, saying Schiano’s success at Rutgers makes him more of an intriguing candidate than Herman, who’s had success at Houston but not for very long. “He’s had success for like 32 seconds,” Klatt joked. And as far as Schiano > Kelly goes, Klatt said he doesn’t like how the Fighting Irish head coach treats his players. “Brian Kelly blames his players,” Klatt said. “I’m a players guy.” Kelly is believed to be somewhat on the hot seat after Notre Dame’s brutal start.Schiano, 50, went a very respectable 68-67 during his time as Rutgers’ head coach. He’s certainly a decent head coach candidate this offseason. And if Urban Meyer’s history means anything, he’ll probably go on to be very successful in his next gig.But if you’re, say, Texas, would you even consider hiring Schiano over Herman? Highly doubtful.last_img read more
