Weah: My mom told me to stay at PSG

first_imgParis Saint-Germain forward Timothy Weah revealed his mother played a big part in convincing him to remain with the Ligue 1 champions, though he may reconsider going out on loan in January.  The 18-year-old United States international scored his first Ligue 1 goal for PSG in the club’s opener and was rewarded with a start in its second game. However, Weah was pulled at halftime in that contest and has yet to feature for the club since, with speculation mounting prior to the transfer deadline that he would head out on loan. Zlatan wasn’t even the best player in LA! Weah decided to remain with PSG, and speaking to reporters after the USMNT’s 2-0 loss to Brazil, the forward explained how his mother played a large role in convincing him to remain.“It was a family decision,” Weah told reports of his decision to not go out on loan. “My mom, she thought I am still really young and tender. There’s still some stuff to work on.“She thought if I did go to a lower team in the same league, there would be so many expectations to carry that team or potentially fight for a league winning spot. I don’t feel that I’m ready for that.”Instead, Weah thinks the experience of getting time on the training field with the first team and some of the game’s biggest stars is best for his development. “I’m always ready for a challenge but right now I feel like training with PSG, training with Neymar, Thiago Silva and getting better each day – I feel like that’s the way to go. That’s the choice we made.” While playing time is not guaranteed with PSG, Weah is still taking positive experiences from it, saying the environment has helped build his confidence before he arrived with the USMNT. “Playing with one of the best teams in the world, it gives you huge confidence coming to international camp,” Weah said. “I wouldn’t say on the same level but you feel more confident when you’ve played like guys like Neymar, Thiago Silva. You know how they play. You’re with them every day and they’re like your brothers. Coming into these games you’re super confident.“I felt with the touches that I had, I showed a confidence. It’s just right now, I’m super young and I’m still learning. I still had a bit of jitters playing against Brazil but it’s something to work on and the future is really bright for us.”Despite remaining for now, Weah did leave open the possibility he may consider a loan away from PSG in January.“There’s still so much time. I’m only 18,” Weah added. “So who knows? In January, when the transfer market is open again hopefully look see where it is.”last_img read more

first_imgReal Madrid’s Dani Carvajal says he would like to play in the Premier League before his career is over. The full-back has spent his entire career with Real Madrid, save for a one-year loan with German side Bayer Leverkusen in 2012-13.A product of the club’s youth academy, Carvajal’s time in Madrid has been wildly successful as the defender has won 14 senior trophies throughout his career. Messi and Argentina out for revenge after Copa controversy Best player in MLS? Zlatan wasn’t even the best player in LA! Those trophies include four Champions League titles and a La Liga crown, but the 26-year-old admitted he does think about a move towards something new.”I do think about it,” Carvajal told Libero Magazine, per ESPN, when asked about leaving Spain. “And I am clear that I want to play in the Premier League.”It is an experience that I really want to have. I don’t want to be left wondering what it would be like. But, on the other hand, I would like to spend my whole career here, which would be something very nice too.”It is true that [with] Qatar, China… we should not trick ourselves, it is about money. I would really like to experience the Premier League, but we will see.”Carvajal’s contract with the Spanish club runs through 2022, and he has made five La Liga appearances and two Champions League appearances to start the current campaign. The Spain international, who appeared 25 times in the league for Real Madrid last season, was a member of La Roja’s World Cup squad this summer in Russia.Currently sidelined with a calf injury, Carvajal’s status is currently in doubt for Real Madrid’s upcoming match with Levante on October 20 as well as the clash with rivals Barcelona on October 28.last_img read more

Klopp: LFC defending hurt attack

first_imgLiverpool manager Jurgen Klopp accepts a greater focus on defending has impacted his team’s attack this season.Klopp’s men are unbeaten in eight Premier League games, but their attack is yet to reach the same heights as 2017-18.With 15 finishes thus far, Liverpool are equal fifth for goals scored, however, they have conceded just three – a league-best alongside Manchester City. Article continues below Editors’ Picks Man Utd ready to spend big on Sancho and Haaland in January Who is Marcus Thuram? Lilian’s son who is top of the Bundesliga with Borussia Monchengladbach Brazil, beware! Messi and Argentina out for revenge after Copa controversy Best player in MLS? Zlatan wasn’t even the best player in LA! Klopp said a change in approach had contributed to those numbers, but believes his team are still creating enough.”We want to be stronger defensively but we didn’t say that means we don’t have that much interest in offensive things,” the German told UK newspapers.”It’s a normal period of adaptation. You need to get used to things – closing this gap, this space.”You put the focus a bit more on something and immediately you lose a bit of the fluency in something else.”But we have created enough chances, it’s just that we didn’t score. It’s not that we’ve had no chances, it’s just that we didn’t use them like we used them in the best period of last season.”I am completely fine with that. We have already had good results and scored goals but it’s obvious that we can improve. We need to keep the stability – no doubt about that.”FINALLY…@premierleague football returns tomorrow!! Meanwhile, enjoy every #LFC goal so far this season… pic.twitter.com/EsyFLXCSYs— Liverpool FC (@LFC) October 19, 2018Liverpool have also made adjustments to their pressing this season, with it occurring less often higher up the pitch. But Klopp, whose team visit Huddersfield Town on Saturday, said that was purely down to the approach of opponents.”It’s more the case that teams don’t usually play against us. They overplay our pressing with long balls, which makes sense,” he said.”In a lot of games our counter-press has been really good, which is much more important in terms of losing the ball and winning it back.”In terms of the high press, it depends on the style of play of the other team. You can’t do it if they don’t play. It’s not that we don’t want to do it any more. If they play then we should be there.”  Subscribe to Goal’s Liverpool Correspondent Neil Jones’ weekly email bringing you the best Liverpool FC writing from around the weblast_img read more

‘Nobody safe at Arsenal after Ozil dropped’

first_imgUnai Emery’s decision to take Mesut Ozil out of the Arsenal starting line-up means that nobody can afford to rest on their laurels, according to Lee Harper. Ozil has been the Gunners’ standard-bearer since moving to north London in 2013 from Real Madrid. The former Germany international has forged a reputation as one of the Premier League’s elite playmakers, breaking several assist records for Arsenal while also racking up more than 40 goals in his 208 appearances. Emery, however, has used Ozil sparingly in recent weeks, with the star making just two appearances in all competitions over the course of November. And Harper believes that the Spanish manager has sent a message that below-par performances will not be tolerated even from Arsenal’s most experienced players.“I think Emery’s been fantastic. He’s given everyone a breath of fresh air, changing a few things around tactically and bringing in new ideas,” the ex-Arsenal keeper told Love Sport Radio.“The fact he reportedly left out Mesut Ozil because he wasn’t happy with his work-rate tells you that no one is safe.“Everyone knows that they’ve got to go out and perform and give 100 per cent.”Arsenal resume their Premier League campaign on Sunday with a huge north London derby at home to rivals Tottenham. Arsenal celebrate 2018-19A place in the top four is on offer if the Gunners can win, and Harper has called on his old employers to leave nothing to chance against third-placed Spurs.“I think it’s going to be tough on Sunday, as tough as the game against Liverpool,” he added.“Tottenham are buoyed from a really big win against Chelsea and they have some very good players.“I think it’s a bigger game for Arsenal. Tottenham would be more satisfied to come away from the Emirates with a point whereas Arsenal could do with all three to keep themselves right in there at the top.“If they lost to Spurs there would be a six-point gap between them and you don’t really want that at this stage of the season.“They need to keep on their tails so hopefully they’ll get the win.“They’ve passed every test they’ve faced so far on this 18-month unbeaten run and that’s a fantastic achievement, but they’ve also drawn four or five games recently and now they’re 10 points down on Manchester City.“They need to pick up some wins as well and there’d be nothing better than picking up a win on Sunday.” Check out Goal’s Premier League 2019-20 fantasy football podcast for game tips, debate and rivalries.last_img read more

FA Cup: Chelsea edge Tottenham in thrilling semi-final

first_imgLate goals from Eden Hazard and Nemanja Matic sealed a 4-2 victory for Chelsea over London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in a rip-roaring FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Saturday.#EmiratesFACup semi-final reaction from the @wembleystadium pitch! https://t.co/ivzk4GA6wS- The Emirates FA Cup (@EmiratesFACup) April 22, 2017It was only the fourth time in the competition that a semi-final had featured the current top two in the top flight and it did not disappoint as the title rivals produced a sizzling contest.Brazilian Willian, surprisingly selected ahead of Hazard in the starting line-up, twice put Chelsea ahead, first after four minutes with a free kick and then close to halftime from the penalty spot.Twice Tottenham roared back with Harry Kane heading them level after 18 minutes and Dele Alli making it 2-2 with a superb finish seven minutes after the break.Tottenham, who are four points behind Chelsea in the league after a brilliant run of form, dominated at times but their hopes of a first FA Cup final since 1991 were sunk late on.First Hazard, who replaced Willian with half an hour remaining, buried a low shot past Hugo Lloris after 75 minutes, then Matic’s 30-metre piledriver sank Spurs who have won only one of their last nine matches at Wembley and have now lost in seven successive FA Cup semi-finals.last_img read more

Oppo F3 with dual front camera system launched in India at Rs 19,990

first_imgOppo launched the selfie-centric phone, aka the F3, in India on Thursday at a price of Rs 19,990. The Oppo F3, which can be considered as a toned down version of the company’s F3 Plus phone, will be available for pre-order from May 4 to May 12. It will be available for buying from May 13, the company announced.Oppo’s F3 has the same dual front camera system as the one on-board the company’s more expensive F3 Plus. Just like the F3 Plus, the Oppo F3 also comes with one 16-megapixel standard lens and another 8-megapixel — 120 degree — wide-angle lens for group selfies. The idea behind incorporating a wide-angle lens for selfies stems from the fact that 66 per cent of users have apparently told Oppo – as per a Nielsen survey – that their phone’s front camera lens aren’t wide enough to capture good group selfies. The F3 uses smart recognition to detect when three or more people are in the frame and automatically switches to wide-angle mode, according to Oppo. The F3, in addition, can also make do of its secondary 8-megapixel front sensor to achieve fancy bokeh effects in selfies. On the rear, the Oppo F3 comes with a 13-megapixel camera with phase detection autofocus, Optical Image Stabilisation and LED flash.Erstwhile, the Oppo F3 comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p screen and an octa-core MediaTek MT6750 processor with 4GB RAM under the hood. The phone comes with 64GB of internal memory which is expandable via a separate micro-SD card slot. The phone also ships with two separate slots for two separate SIMs and is capable of running what it calls as Clone apps, which are essentially two different instances of the same app like WhatsApp.advertisementThe 4G LTE-capable Oppo F3 runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based ColorOS 3.0 and is backed by a 3,200mAh battery with support for fast charging. The Oppo F3 looks a lot like the company’s incumbent F1S and sports a full-metal unibody design with a front-mounted fingerprint scanner. Also Read: Vivo V5 Plus quick review: The iPhone 7 look-alike with 2 front cameraslast_img read more

Shoaib Malik, Imad Wasim dedicate maiden Champions Trophy triumph to billions of Pakistanis

first_imgFirst-time finalists Pakistan hammered arch-rivals India by 180 runs to clinch their maiden Champions Trophy title at The Oval on Sunday. Put into bat Pakistan posted a mammoth 338/4 with Man of the Match Fakhar Zaman scoring his maiden hundred and top-scored in the match with 114 while Azhar Ali 59 and Mohammad Hafeez (57*) also made significant contributions. In reply India’s chase was derailed by Mohammad Amir, who removed the top-three batsmen – Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan – inside the first 10 overs. Hassan Ali also took three wickets in the middle overs, including the final one off Jasprit Bumrah to ensure an emphatic win for Pakistan.Hassan took the Golden Ball award for finishing as the highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 13 scalps in five matches at 15.69, while Dhawan got the Golden Bat for scoring 338 runs in five games at 67.60 with one hundred and two fifties. Most of the Pakistani players were at a loss for words after the victory but they all thanked and dedicated the trophy to the people back home.Imad Wasim – “It’s unbelievable (feeling). Nothing gets bigger than this. Seems like we are playing in Pakistan and thanks to all those who supported. I am sure the roads are full in Pakistan, people will be celebrating and I can’t wait to get back. We sat down together after the first game. We were down and out, but we discussed that we need to do something to turn things around. People wrote us off, but this is an incredible win.”advertisementShoaib Malik – “In words, it’s very hard to describe (the feeling). I guess the roads will be full (in Pakistan) and they’ll be celebrating even though it is Ramadan. I want to congratulate the Pakistani people. Things like this bring us united. I’d like to thank the Indian cricket team the way they played in this tournament, and also the Indian fans who came out to support. We were okay (when asked if he was under pressure before the start of the match). Being a senior cricketer, the other players look up you. Credit to all the players. This performance was exceptional.”Hassan Ali – “I wasn’t in the side last year but I relied on hard work and self belief. I have learnt from the beginning that fitness is important. The tournament was good for me. I hope I continue like this. The final wicket vwas a very special moment; I don’t have words.”Mohammad Amir – “That’s the start we needed. At the start, Kohli. Rohit and Shikhar.. they were in great form but I did it. To be honest, it is a teamwork. After the South Africa game, the way we played. That game gave us the momentum.”Mickey Arthur – “It has been an up and down ride. After the India game, we came back superbly. We knew we were better than that. The whole group came together and kept believing and that was a superb thing. We wanted to be a lot more consistent. It has been a remarkable achievement. We have got a group of young players. We are on the right track, everything is going right at the moment. I am happy with the brand of cricket we have been playing and want to continue the momentum. We have got two years until 2019. We have got enough points and now we do not have to go through qualifyings, we want to work hard from here. We have to identify the players we want to take forward.”Azhar Mahmood – “He (Hasan Ali) is a young guy and bowls with a big of heart. Every time he runs in, he wants to get a wicket. The attitude is brilliant. He is a match winner for us. Young guy coming into the side (Fakhar Zaman). It is more self belief than physical and technical thing. Fakhar Zaman is a brilliant guy up the order. He puts pressure on the opposition. If there is a guy like him who can go up there get some runs for us, that is just brilliant.”Pakistan were the lowest-ranked team in the tournament but they surprised everyone and made a stunning comeback after losing their opening match against India by 124 runs. They then went on to beat South Africa, Sri Lanka and tournament favourites England to reach the final where an all-round performance saw them overwhelm Virat Kohli’s Team India.last_img read more
