FRISCO, Texas – Northwestern State forward/center Ishmael Lane is the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Southland Conference Players of the Week are presented by MidSouth Bank.With a pair of double-doubles last week, he extended his streak of consecutive double-doubles to seven games, the longest active streak in the nation. Lane averaged 18 points, 13.5 rebounds and 5.5 blocks per game as the Demons split their contests with an 81-73 overtime loss to New Orleans and a 74-72 victory over McNeese.Lane and the Demons travel to Beaumont for a Wednesday night clash with Lamar at 7 p.m. CT before hosting Stephen F. Austin at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.Men’s Basketball Player of the Week – Ishmael Lane, Northwestern State – Senior – Forward/Center – Port Allen, La.Along with 19 points and 15 rebounds against New Orleans on Wednesday, Lane neared a triple-double with a career-high eight blocks. His heroics included draining a long-range heave to beat the shot clock late in regulation and sinking a buzzer-beating 16-foot shot that forced overtime.His lone assist against McNeese came on a cross-court feed to Malik Metoyer, who put up the decisive shot, giving the Demons a 74-72 lead with 16.8 seconds remaining. The conference leader in blocks per game (2.2), Lane stopped a potential game-tying shot in the final seconds, his third of the day.
