Comments 2:42 Epic Games There is only a short time left to catch up on season 7 challenges (read our guide) in Fortnite: Battle Royale. Season 8 starts Feb. 28 at 1 a.m. PT (4 a.m. ET), but you still have time to complete Overtime challenges to get your free Battle Pass. There are 16 Overtime challenges and you need to complete 13 to get the free Battle Pass. Since the season 8 Battle Pass would cost you roughly $10, that’s like getting free money just for playing Fortnite — not a bad deal if you ask me. But you only have a short time left.Find the final four challenges at the bottom of this post.overtimechallenges Jason Parker/CNET Collect coins in featured creative islandsFor this one you’ll have to enter Creative Mode and simply launch any of the featured islands from the Creative Hub, then search for coins. Deal damage to opponents with assault rifles or pistolsThis is about as standard as it gets for challenges. Note that you have to get 500 damage though, so it may take a few games to complete.Search chests or ammo boxes at a motel or RV parkI made a map for where these two locations are so you can get to them quickly, but I have this weird feeling. I could be wrong (probably am), but I’m thinking Epic Games is sending us to these locations because they might be going away in season 8. The RV park has been around since the beginning so I could see the company deciding to add something new and different. The Motel is a little newer, but you have to admit it’s not a very exciting place to drop. We’ll find out if I’m right in a couple weeks, but here’s where they’re located:motelrvparkIs Epic just sending us to say goodbye? Jason Parker/CNET Place top 15 in duos with a friendHas there been a team-based challenge before that wasn’t a generic daily challenge? I can’t remember. This should be pretty easy provided you make an effort with a friend (and maybe don’t drop into Tilted Towers this time). Even if you autofill to get your partner, if you play it a little safe, you should get top 15 without much trouble.Regain health from a campfire in different matchesThis challenge will obviously rely on whether you can find a campfire in the first place. It’s also important to note that it’s not enough to just place the campfire; it actually has to heal you (so you can’t just do this at full health). I would suggest getting into a large team match for this one because it looks like you’ll get credit regardless of who places the campfire. Don’t forget that only one per match will count toward the challenge, but you’ll need three total to complete it.fortniteovertimesaturdayHere are the three challenges added on Saturday. Jason Parker/CNET Visit different named locationsHere’s a challenge we’ve seen many times before, but note that you have to visit 10 different locations. You can get more than one per match and if you plan it well by landing in a coastal location, you can work your way inwards to pass through several as the storm closes in. The next game, just land in a different coastal area and do the same thing. Search a supply drop in different matchesThough supply drops can be dangerous, note that you only have to get two of them in different matches to complete the challenge. Just be aware that a lot of people will be doing the same thing, so you might wait a couple days to make it a little more safe.Revive a player in different matchesYour best bet here is to play any large team mode because you’ll inevitably have tons of chances to revive people. It shouldn’t be too hard to get the required three revives, but just remember that only the first one counts per match.overtimetuesdayHere are the challenges that went live on Tuesday, Feb. 19. Jason Parker/CNET Visit different waterfallsThis is a fun quest we haven’t seen before, but as long as you know where to go, it shouldn’t take too long. Here are all the waterfalls on the map:fortniteovertimewaterfalls Jason Parker/CNET Deal damage to opponents with shotguns or SMGsThis is another common challenge we’ve seen many times and I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Most people use either a shotgun or SMG whenever they get into a up close firefight. You’ll probably complete this one without trying, but note you have to get 500 damage to fulfill the requirement.Search chests or ammo boxes at The BlockThis one will be fun, but there are going to be a lot of people there starting on Tuesday. If you wait a couple days, you’ll probably have better luck, but it is pretty much going to be a free-for-all.Place top 10 in squads with a friendIt’s time to get the old team back together or take your chances with random squad-mates. Even if everyone doesn’t make it all the way, there’s no shame in hiding out to get into the top 10. Just be careful and it shouldn’t take too many tries to get this one done.overtimechallengeslast4Here are the last four challenges revealed on Friday, Feb 22. Jason Parker/CNET Play matches of Driftin’ with a friendThere’s not much to this one beyond playing the new limited time mode with a buddy. Just look for a red balloon supply drop, grab a board and go. You’ll need to complete three matches to get credit.Thank the bus driver in different matchesI think at this point, thanking the bus driver is second nature to most players, but you just hit down on the directional pad on consoles or touch the emote button in the upper right on mobile. You’ll get credit once you’ve done it seven times in different matches.Search chests or ammo boxes at a racetrack or a dance clubThis is a pretty standard quest that shouldn’t take you too long if you know where to go. The racetrack is in the northern part of the desert area and the dance club is in a large building northwest of Lucky Landing in the snowy area. Wherever you choose, you’ll need to gather seven chests or ammo boxes, so you could probably take it out in a couple of matches if you focus on it. Just be aware that a lot of other people will be doing the same thing. Here’s a map where the two locations are:fortnitemapracetrackdanceclub Jason Parker/CNET Outlast 75 opponents in a single matchThis last challenge should be pretty easy, provided you stay safe. I would advise against landing at Tilted Towers (like I always do) or Paradise Palms because so many people usually land there. Just find an out of the way spot, gear up and avoid battles for your best chance to stay alive as long as possible. Obviously, if you’re great at Fortnite, this challenge won’t be a problem at all, but this advice is for those who have trouble getting to the end game. If you watch your back, you should have no trouble getting in the top 25.  3 How is Apex Legends different from Fortnite and PUBG? Fortnitelast_img read more

Several Candidates File for Bowser and Barry Seats

first_imgThe D.C. Board of Elections posted its Jan. 5 listing of the D.C. Council hopefuls for Wards 4 and 8. The winners of the April 28 special election will replace D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) in Ward 4 and the late D.C. Council member Marion S. Barry who represented Ward 8.The listing shows there are 17 candidates seeking to replace Bowser, including labor attorney and Ward 4 advisory neighborhood commissioner Renee L. Bowser (no relation to Muriel Bowser), who ran for the seat in 2012. Other candidates include the mayor’s preference for the position, former D.C. Council staffer Brandon Todd; commissioner and D.C. NAACP leader Douglass Sloan; and commissioners Ron Austin and Acqunetta Anderson.Todd reportedly raised $50,000 since declaring his candidacy in December. Todd said he is ready for the race, no matter who runs. “I’m going to work hard,” he said. “I’m going to knock on every door in Ward 4.”Candidates also filing in the Ward 4 race include Leon T. Andrews Jr., Gwenellen Corley-Bowman, Chrysanthe A. Courniotes, Judi Jones, Lydia I. Little, Bruce Morrison, Edwin W. Powell, Pedro Rubio Jr., Glova Scott, Vannie Taylor III, Bobvala Tengen and Robert J. Whitaker Sr.Ward 8 residents, dealing with the sudden death of Barry in November, will have a field of 23 candidates to evaluate for the council seat. The latest, and perhaps the most intriguing, candidate is Marion C. Barry, son of the late councilman.Christopher Barry entered the race on Jan. 5. In a tweet to supporters and the media, he said,“It’s official. I’m running for Ward 8 council member. Ward 8 the legacy continues. I’m energized, let’s go.”Natalie Williams, president of the Ward 8 Democrats, an advisory neighborhood commissioner, and a candidate for the seat in 2012, is running. LaRuby May, a civic activist in the Congress Heights neighborhood and a strong Bowser supporter in 2014, is mounting a campaign with many of the mayor’s supporters including ward businessman Phineas Jones and former D.C. Council members Arrington Dixon, Sandy Allen, and Edye Whittington.Sheila Bunn, former deputy chief of staff to Mayor Vincent Gray, is a candidate along with former Ward 8 D.C. Board of Education member Trayon White, longtime Ward 8 activist and former D.C. Taxicab Commission member Sandra “S.S.” Seegars, former D.C. Statehood Representative Nate Bennett Fleming, D.C. voting rights activist and radio talk show host Eugene D. Kinlow, and anti-violence activist Jauhar Abraham.Advisory neighborhood commissioners Greta Fuller, Anthony Muhammad, and Karlene Armstead are also candidates for the Ward 8 seat with former commissioner Darrell Danny Gaston. Stuart Anderson, Milton Bell, Wallace Haith, Dennis Harvey, Edwina J. Montague, Keita Vanterpool, Leonard Watson Sr., Angela White (Narain), David J. White, and Ron Williams are activists who have shown interest in representing the ward.As of Jan. 7, the race for the Ward 8 council seat was reduced from 23 to 21, with Harvey and Williams dropping out. Harvey dropped out to support Chris Barry. Williams said he might run for the seat in 2016.Candidates in both wards must submit their petitions to the elections board by 5 p.m. on Jan. 28.last_img read more
