In fact, they got their name by walking into various jazz venues around Boston asking club owners and other musicians if they would “let us play.” Today, in 2016, the funk powerhouse is at the top of their game with a reputation that speaks volumes to the last twenty-six years of their musical existence.Having just thrown their own music festival Fool’s Paradise in St. Augustine, and on their way to headline Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado later this week with support from Rahzel, Pete Rock, Manic Focus and The Wailers (tickets for Rage Rocks are still available), there are few milestones these traveling musicians haven’t reached during their expansive experiences on the road. Granted, road life isn’t easy, and it may take some time to fine tune your own personal recipe to survival. Plus you have to just think to yourself, “This is a burst of energy and adrenaline along with many different chemicals that is coming to me right now for a reason (to perform in front of an audience) and I don’t have to name that energy ‘restless’ or ‘nervous’, I can call it whatever I want like, ‘excitement or ‘power’. This feeling before a performance is an absolute necessity to the show. Also practice, yeah you should know the songs too that helps a lot. L4LM: How do you overcome the elements of nature that aren’t always in your favor?Deitch: My late grandmother controls all weather (according to my mom).Zoidis: Stay positive and focus on the music. Jesus: I have my connections. L4LM: What’s the best way to celebrate a sold-out show?Deitch: We celebrate with some high 5s and a Lil veuve cliqout.Zoidis: Listening back to it. Jesus: Play an incredible set.L4LM: How are you preparing for your next big gig, “Rage Rocks” at Colorado’s legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre with The Wailers, Manic Focus, Pete Rock, and Rahzel this June?
