Apple patents gaming controller looks like a DualShock Updated

first_imgUpdate: As pointed out by several people, the images used by Apple in the patent filing are just examples of existing controllers, not the actual design they intend to use. If Apple does come out with a gaming controller in the future, we can expect it to look distinctly “Apple-like” and in keeping with the rest of its devices.Apple has revealed a new patent, a gaming controller that looks almost identical to a PlayStation DualShock controller. And if this patent becomes an actual controller, Apple could soon be tapping into the core gaming market. The patent was originally filed for in March and the controller will be used with iPhones, iPads and the Apple TV. The Apple TV in itself could become a gaming console in the future, and with this new controller gamers might view it as a serious alternative to a PS3, Wii or Xbox 360 under their TV.Although the image above shows the controller having a cable, the patent details a wireless connection using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification). Many different gadgets already exist to turn your iPhone and iPad into classic games systems, with the iCade range being the most well-known. But a proper DualShock-style controller could turn the gaming market on its head. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo would have to step up their game in order to make sure Apple doesn’t become a serious competitor in their own back yard, just like the Ouya console is threatening to do.Of course, this patent may never become a reality and even if this controller did, it’s likely a few design changes would have to be made to make it look a lot less like a PlayStation peripheral. It’s unlikely Apple will try to seriously compete with the core console games market, but I’m sure many Apple fans would jump at the chance to play games “properly” on their TV rather than tapping a touchscreen and covering part of the action in the process.View the patent (PDF), via GamesIndustry.bizlast_img

Investing money in UK shares has been a successful means of making a million for many years. The FTSE 100, for example, has produced an annual return of around 8% (including dividends) since its inception in 1984.Since then, some periods have represented better buying opportunities than others. Periods when valuations were low have generally provided greater capital return potential for new investors.5G is here – and shares of this ‘sleeping giant’ could be a great way for you to potentially profit!According to one leading industry firm, the 5G boom could create a global industry worth US$12.3 TRILLION out of thin air…And if you click here we’ll show you something that could be key to unlocking 5G’s full potential…Therefore, now could be an opportune moment to build an ISA portfolio of UK shares. Weak investor sentiment and the stock market’s recovery prospects could make it easier to become an ISA millionaire in the coming years.Investing money at the right timeInvesting money while the valuations of UK shares are low has historically provided investors with greater return prospects than buying when valuations are high. However, the difficulty is that the best times to buy FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 shares are generally after a market crash, when investor sentiment is weak and the economic outlook is uncertain. Those risks often dissuade investors from buying stocks, and may even push them towards lower-risk assets such as cash and bonds. However, the track record of the UK stock market shows that it has always recovered from its bear markets and downturns to produce new record highs. So, while it currently trades at a relatively low level, there may be significant recovery potential in the form of high capital gains available for long-term investors.Overcoming short-term challengesClearly, investing money while risks are currently high is a tough task for any investor to overcome. Naturally, your gut instinct is to take less risk, rather than more risk, while the global economy is experiencing one of its most difficult periods in living memory. However, if you have a long time horizon, there is likely to be ample time for UK shares to recover from any short-term setbacks along the way. Therefore, even if the FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 experience a second market crash this year, they are very likely to mount successful comebacks in the long run. Through building a diverse portfolio of high-quality stocks that have the financial means to survive a period of weak operating conditions, you can benefit from the recovery potential of the stock market.Making a millionEven assuming that investing money today earns a rate of return that is similar to the FTSE 100’s track record, buying £750 of UK shares per month over 30 years would produce an ISA valued at over £1m.However, with many UK shares trading at low price levels, it may be possible to obtain a higher rate of growth that shortens the amount of time required to build a seven-figure portfolio. Therefore, now could be the right time to start buying FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 shares for the long run. I’m sure you’ll agree that’s quite the statement from Motley Fool Co-Founder Tom Gardner. But since our US analyst team first recommended shares in this unique tech stock back in 2016, the value has soared. What’s more, we firmly believe there’s still plenty of upside in its future.
