Bayern Munich hand Ribery “heavy fine” for Tweetstorm

first_img“Franck has been slandered and insulted,” said Salihamidzic. “And not only Franck, but his pregnant wife, his child and his mother, who is currently in hospital for an operation. Franck wanted to defend himself and defend his family. He has the right to do that. I support him in that, but unfortunately he totally lost control.”German media and social media users had called on the reigning Bundesliga champions to punish the striker, who is out of contract at the end of the season.“Bosses must suspend Ribery,” urged German tabloid Bild. The paper referred to comments by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the club’s chief executive, who, in October responded to media criticism by quoting the German Constitution that “the dignity of the human being is intangible”.“He is right, but it would not hurt if he explained it to his employee Franck Ribery,” said Bild.Bayern and Rummenigge have also been on the defensive recently after criticism from some of the club’s own fans over the decision to return to Qatar for winter training. RiberyBerlin, Germany | AFP |  Bayern Munich will impose “a heavy fine” on Franck Ribery for his obscenity laced outburst on social media, the club’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic said on Sunday. The French striker put a string of angry posts on Twitter and Instagram on Saturday aimed at those who had criticised him for eating a gold-coated steak.“I had a long talk with Franck and I let him know that we would impose a heavy fine on him and he accepted it,” Salihamidzic told journalists in Qatar, where the club is on a training camp.“He used words that we, FC Bayern, cannot accept and that Franck does not have the right to use, as a role-model and player of FC Bayern”, added Salihamidzic. On Thursday, the 35-year-old Bayern Munich player posted a video on social media showing him in a steak house owned by celebrity Turkish restauranteur Salt Bae and rubbing his hands before tucking into a huge chop coated in gold. That ostentatious luxury, and the reported cost of the meal, drew ferocious criticism before Ribery — who earns an estimated eight million euros a year with the German champions — hit back on Saturday.“Let’s start with the envious, the angry, surely born because of a broken condom,” read the first of the posts on Ribery’s Twitter account. “F*ck your mothers, your grandmothers and your whole family tree,” wrote Ribery in the first of three irate posts, having taken care to sanitise the French word “n*quez”.Salihamidzic made clear that Ribery did not pay the bill himself because he had been invited to the restaurant. He also acknowledged that the player had been responding to a flurry of insults. Share on: WhatsApplast_img read more

Mobile shopping made easier with payD

first_img8 May 2012 Mobile services company Oltio, a joint venture between Standard Bank and mobile operator MTN, is looking to change the way South Africans use their mobile phones by turning their handsets into personal point of sale devices. Earlier this year, Oltio was nominated in the “best mobile money innovation” category at the annual GSMA Global Mobile Awards for its secure transaction authentication technology, payD. Through the payD platform, launched in August 2011, consumers can buy products and services online, using their debit cards to pay for their purchase and their mobile phones to enter their PINs.Major partners, vendors on board The technology is used by Oltio parent company MTN for its Eazi Recharge pre-paid airtime top-up service, which has nearly 140 000 users. Other partners include MasterCard, through its recently launched MasterCard Mobile payment platform; PayU, which currently processes 65% of all online payments in South Africa; and Vodacom’s new Express Recharge pre-paid airtime top-up service. In addition, payD has more than 200 vendors on board, including 1time Airline and online retailer TakeAlot, and Oltio is pushing to grow the number of merchants offering payD to its customers. “The MasterCard Mobile platform enables millions of South Africans to make secure purchases using their PIN-based bank cards,” Oltio CEO Terry Timson said in a statement last week.‘Convenient and cost-effective’ “It’s a convenient and cost-effective payment mechanism that lets customers make use of their existing bank accounts, credit and debit cards, if issued by Standard Bank, Absa or Nedbank. “This use of our pioneering technology means consumers can benefit from the competitive prices, convenience and variety associated with buying online, simply by registering their MasterCard or Maestro PIN-based credit or debit card to transact.” payD is also available to PIN-based Visa debit and credit cards issued by Standard Bank, Absa or Nedbank. PostBank customers can also use payD to make payments on their mobile phones. According to Timson, this means “we are, in effect, enabling the vast majority of the more than 30-million South African debit card users to join the e- and m-commerce revolution, many for the first time.” SAinfo reporterlast_img read more

Ohio Ag Weather and Forecast — July 23, 2018

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Rain was impressive over the weekend,  but we are not even close to being done. Strong low pressure has already provided plenty of wrap around moisture, and we see that holding on over Ohio through the next two days. Today and tomorrow we will not see rain all day, but the threat will be there all day, and we think we can add a few hundredths to half an inch to our totals each day. 2 day coverage will be at 90% of Ohio, and we can even see rains linger through Wednesday morning over NE Ohio. We had been looking for rain to take longer to clear out here than farther west, but even this is a change from our thinking from late last week. The map at right shows rain totals through Wednesday midday.  By midweek we starting to see some drier weather and hopefully will see better sunshine potential for Wednesday afternoon and Thursday. A cold front sags south into Ohio overnight Thursday night, and may be able to bring a few hundredths to .25” to about 60% of the region from I-70 northward. South of I-70 we see nothing.  Friday is dry again, and we see similar weather for Saturday and most of Sunday. However, overnight Sunday night into Monday we expect a large circulation to move across Indiana, and we need to watch this to see if any of that moderate to heavy rain can make it in here. The circulation seems to want to fall apart rather quickly on Monday, and that would limit rains here. Still, we are going to put clouds and at least scattered showers in the forecast for Monday into early Tuesday of next week with totals under .5″ and coverage at only 60%. We will be watching the evolution of this event, though, and may have to increase thunderstorm chances and rain totals if things come together right. Dry behind that system for Tuesday, and then a minor front still is on the way as we flip the calendar into August. However, the front is looking much less impressive, as we think it will lose a large chunk of energy and moisture to strong weather outbreak 36 hours prior for Sunday night. The chances of moisture may even drop further as we get closer to the even, depending on how that Sunday-Monday system evolves.  For the extended period, there is not much going on through the first couple of days as strong high pressure stays close by, but, late the 4th we see a system coming together in the western belt that will take a few days to push east. This will likely bring some half to 1-inch moisture potential back to the eastern corn belt for the 5th and 6th. High pressure returns on the backside of that system.  Temps look to be normal to below normal the next few days, and then sneak above normal late this week into the weekend. WE cool off next week after the strong storms Sunday night and Monday.last_img read more

Holiday Reading: 5 of This Year’s Best Books for Startups

first_imgTags:#Features#start#tips Photo credit: Flickr 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting Ideally, you’ll find some time over the next few weeks to curl up with a good story. Or hey, at least that’s what I look forward to on vacation. If you are looking for some books on entrepreneurship to read, or even to gift, here are some recommended books from 2010. There were a number of great business books published this year, many of which we reviewed here as part of ReadWriteWeb’s “Weekend Reading” series. But here are a few of the standouts, startup books we’ve chosen specifically because they are such great stories:Do More Faster: TechStars Lessons to Accelerate Your StartupDo More Faster: TechStars Lessons to Accelerate Your Startup is the recent book by TechStars co-founder David Cohen and Brad Feld. The book aims to share some of the insights gleaned from those who’ve participated in the TechStars accelerator program, and many of the chapters were contributed by TechStars’ mentors and entrepreneurs. The book, according to its authors, is like TechStars: “community-driven and mentorship-oriented.” You can read an excerpt of the title chapter here.Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion & Purpose In Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion, & Purpose, Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh, chronicles his life as an entrepreneur, even prior to his founding and sale of LinkExchange to Microsoft. In the book, Hsieh talks about the lessons he learned and the philosophies he developed in building Zappos’ unique company culture. You can read our review here.ReworkRework was written by 37 signals founders Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson, and it’s based on the lessons they’ve learned from running the company. The book stresses their minimalist approach to business – simple rather than bloated software. A call to “underdo the competition. Rework is a quick read (lots of pictures), but an enjoyable one. You can read our review here. The Facebook Effect: The Inside Story of the Company That Is Connecting the World While the fictionalized account of Mark Zuckerberg’s life in The Social Network has been getting most of the attention and critical praise, David Kirkpatrick’s The Facebook Effect shouldn’t be overlooked. The founding of Facebook clearly makes a great story. Fitzpatrick had full cooperation from many key characters, including Mark Zuckerberg himself. It’s by no means Aaron Sorkin’s screenplay; it’s a very friendly assessment and detailed accounting of the history of Facebook, from the Harvard dorms to the 500 millionth member.Where Good Ideas Come From: The Natural History of Innovation Steven Johnson’s Where Good Ideas Come From looks at what sorts of environments – in terms of nature and culture – may be most conducive to creativity. The book looks at “slow hunches” as well as accidental discoveries and contains dozens of stories of scientific, technological and cultural innovators, from Darwin to Brian Eno.
